Running – Are your arms letting your running down?

Runners – Are you maximising the potential of your arms while running?

 

So here we have the initial video of a lady who was running a 1.45 pace half marathon and her goal was to get down to 130 for the half marathon, she had quite a quick 10k speed but felt unable to hold this speed for the full half marathon distance.In this first video her arms were just hanging off the torso and not adding any benefit to her running economy. They are just sitting by her side rocking and creating extra twisting through her torso while she is running which is lacking economy in her running technique.

As a result of this her legs are doing far more work than they need to having to work to counter the rotation forces as well as to keep propelling her forwards. So the aim was to get the arm driving forwards and backwards more effectively at the shoulders and reduce the rotational force through her torso.

Here we are now at the after video following the completion of a set of running sessions with running evolution. You can now see from the after video her arms are much more dynamic driving falls backwards medically transferred down nice and straight. And so what we now have some really nice kinetic linking between the arms and legs allowing her to create a much more efficient and smooth running technique side. As we move to the side video we can see that this is dramatically improved legs cycle as arms are working more effectively allowing a whole body to adopt an improved pattern for running. More

And the great news is that this runner over a two-month period has managed to achieve the half marathon goal and has become a much more effective runner has the opportunity to progress forwards from here
